Talkback: Donor shortage driving women to buy sperm online

Replies

  • This story is a bit misleading- the sites that were selling sperm have been closed down- and if people order sperm online this would usually be through a US sperm bank- with the same testing as within the UK. Its just more accessible! What most people are concerned about are connection type web sites- where donors offer to donate sperm, and connect online with women and couples looking for their help. These vary- many are free and open to all types of wierdos - and especially those looking for freebie sex- and women looking to get pregnant for a free ride with the government. Then there are quality connection sites like FSDW (www.Free-Sperm-Donations-Worldwide.com) who offer a membership site, with supportive members only area, behaviour code, free donor agreement docs, free advice- and moderated by The Child Listener™. That site attracts single women, lesbian and infertile couples looking for a donor- some also want to co-parent. It offers choices- and promote safe and responsible private sperm donation. Donors will get tested, and most take quite some time deciding who they wish to be matched with. Its as important to the donors that they choose the 'right' person or couple- as it is for the potential recipient. This issue is huge though- far broader than the health issues- people want choices, and the current system doesnt offer that. Not only because of the shortage of donors - but because donors want more choices too- and people want different typles of arrangements. The legal system is also way behind.
Visit the FSDW to see how it can be done- the fertility 'watchdog' should talk to The Child Listener™- while there is a shortage of sperm donors in clinics, she has around 3000 donors registered.
