It's good that V.B gets involved in her childrens' schools, I work as a dinner lady (now called Midday Supervisory Assistant) and we do not wear hair nets, we simply wear tabards that are well stocked with tissues, scissors, pens and papers and a whistle (which is what we now need as dinner ladies).
We look after children in the canteen and on the playgrounds administering basic first aid when required and it is a very fulfilling job particularly when children come up and hug you, but unfortunately we are not allowed to hug back (which is such a shame, bureaucracy gone mad). So good on you Victoria Beckham.
There is a big shortage of lunchtime staff, so if you get a chance to be a dinner lady (or Midday Supervisory Assistant) then please give it a go, it's only for an hour a day and you get good satisfaction from it, and it could lead you into other careers such as a teaching assistant or learning support assistant.
And the dinners are much better now than they used to be, because schools are only allowed to use fresh ingredients and have to make all the pastries and cakes, etc up from 'scratch' - no packets in sight.
