  Agreed that calling in unannounced is always a good test.

  what is the discipline policy? are all staff first aid trained? how do they deal with fussy eaters? how often do they change nappies?

  If you ever call in unannounced to the nursery that can be interesting ! I called in one day to pick up a beaker to find all the nurses chatting and ignoring the children. A friend once called in to her son's nursery to pick him up and found him tucking into a pot of glue ! And a friend decided not to go out to work after visiting a nursery to see what it was like to find a neighbours child upset in a playpen, had been obviously upset for a while as her face was a mess and nose running badly and no-one doing anything to help her.
