  • This is a common misconception that you have to be induced just because of an estimated due date. Also just because you're offered a sweep or induction doesn't mean you have to accept. The other choice, which is rarely mentioned, is that you can decide that you don't want any medical intervention and opt for monitoring. This can begin from 42 weeks or sooner depending on you & can happen as often as discussed. I was lucky in that my son arrived at 41+6 so I didn't need to go in for any monitoring. Inductions can result in more medical interventions if your baby is not ready to be born. Hopefully, over time, more people will know about monitoring rather than standardly inducing at 10 days over without medical causes.
