It sounds minging but ask them to not be gentle. I had one that did nothing and a really uncomfortable one that started me off. It's two minutes and then it's over. Not the most dignified few minutes of your life but it's not that terrible.
Just had a sweep this morning as I'm 10days overdue with my first baby. Wasnt painful, just uncomfortable, felt like having a smear. Hopefully baby will get the hint and make and appearance soon.
I had this done - Harry was very late, the sweep didnt work for me (neither did accupuncture - he was determined to stay put :-P) I was induced in the end. However I didnt find the sweep really painful, it was quite uncomfortable but nothing to worry over too much. being relaxed will help.
