This is what the Government says - that does not make it true. All the evidence is that "free" schools will be more socially divisive and will take money away from other local schools. Once a "free" school has been established it is effectively the same as an academy and run by a trust - thus reducing the power of the local authority or local community to deal with problems as they arise. The evidence from Sweden and the US suggests that we should not be copying this model for education.
