Talkback: Are fairytales too scary for your toddler?

Replies

  • What nonsense, how can stories that have been timeless classics for generations be bad for our children. Most of the stories have a happy ending and if children ask questions surely that is a bonus on them being interested and inquisitive. A parents role is to help children get interested in books and take on any questions the child may ask about the story as a teaching technique. Any parent who thinks fairy tales are bad for children need to ask themselves; what do they let their children watch on television and how will they teach their children life skills and how to deal with difficult life situations when they arise - because they will! a fairy story is a drop in the ocean compared to actual world we live in and what surrounds our children. A fairy story will not impact greatly on our children its the way they are raised and the values parents teach them that makes them who they are, maybe thats what these parents need to focus on.
