Talkback: Sibling jealousy - does attending the birth of a new baby help?

Replies

  • Had homebirths for numbers 2 and 3, both in the evening/ night so both times older sibling(s) in bed. Had it been daytime, they might well have been present, particularly with number 3 as we hadn't made any alternative arrangements for babysitting. They were still awake anyway and knew when he was born as they heard him crying. I wouldn't particularly be bothered about having them in the room but if it was disturbing them too, hubby would have to have taken them out. Older son ( 5 and a half at the time) was quite curious about how the baby would come out and probably would have been very interested; daughter was only 2 and 3 quarters which I felt was too young so it probably would have disturbed her.
