Talkback: Do breastfed newborns really need to avoid dummies?

Replies

  • I breastfed exclusively and always used a dummy from day one, because dummies were reported to reduce the risk of cot death - so weighing it up, I decided I wanted to reduce that risk as much as possible and would persevere if it caused any issues breastfeeding but it didn't. At the end of the day, it didn't take long (after getting positioning right which was tricky at 1st but so easy after we BOTH got used to what we were doing) for my baby to know where the milk was coming from and what he had to do to get it. From then on, whatever he had in addition didn't stop him wanting and getting his milk!
