Talkback: Lavender – before, during and after birth

Replies

  • Lavender is also a known allergen, were quite a few people suffering a mild to severe reaction to it.

Having avoided it for years as a migraine trigger, I carefully noted in my pregnancy notes that I had a mild allergy to it. The midwife then "kindly" decided my request for no oils in my bath sooth my contractions was daft, told.me she had put Clary sage in and had instead (as her notes showed later) put in lavender.

I within a few minutes of being in the bath felt like my skin was on fire, had to jump out of the bath and run another to get the stuff off my skin, so did not get to soak in it and spent my labour looking like I had rolled in nettles!

So at least clarified that had a moderate rather than mild allergy to lavender and I dare not use the stuff on my son.
