Talkback: Early pregnancy tests are giving too many false results

Replies

  • I only joined to tell you this. If you actually did have people who had the slightest clue about chemistry, biology or physics or any type of lab experience you wouldn't have written this pointless article.

Each pregnancy test, like every other cgemistry test, comes with a sensitivity. The determining factor of how early a pregnancy test can be taken is the sensitivity of the test. The sensitivity is basically the threshold of the concentration that needs to be present during the test to make the chemicals make a visible reaction. The lower the threshold the sooner the test can be taken as the test will detect lower concentrations.

Instead of getting into semantics and probability , simply explaining what to look for on a pregnancy test, sensitivity, and how the concentration of hcg hormone doubles during each day of the pregnancy, would have actually helped a lot more people than demanding a standardization of all pregnancy tests.
