Using TENS machine whilst BF?

Hi ladies image,

I had my second son yesterday. He has taken brilliantly to BFing and all is generally going well, except that I've been having very bad afterpains, especially whilst BFing (which i knew to expect!). Ive been using my TENS machine to help with these, then I suddenly got worried that the electrical impulses could somehow get thru to the baby?!

Anyone know anything about this?

Thank you xx

  • congratulations! No definately no chance of any crossover to the baby whatsever. The impulses are designed to distract your nerves from feeling pain by tuning into the vibrations instead. Nothing gets passed into your breast milk, just the same as nothing gets passed across the placenta when you're in labour xx
  • Brill thank you! Would definitely recommend it as a way to deal with afterpains - especially 2nd+ babies x
