This is a new thread for the lovely people from our Due in February 2020 Birth Club who have given birth to an equally lovely baby, or they're expecting them any time now – and we reckon you deserve a shiny new thread to chat on.

Hello all my fellow Feb Mummas, I hope you and your mini lovelies are doing well xx Amity and I are getting to grips with feeding but the last couple of days I’ve been struggling emotionally, particularly when it comes to “sharing” her with my other half. Feel so overly protective and quite possessive so I’m trying to work through that before it impacts too much 🤞🏻 XX

@AmyD0620 she looks beautiful! Hope you’re settling a little more but equally hope other half is understanding of the rapid hormone shift. I blatantly told mine just this morning: “I’m extra hormonal today. I’m going to be quite passive aggressive toward you all day”. Ride the emotions and let everyone else adjust to you; we deserve it.

Did anyone have a tear or episiotomy? If so, how are you healing? I was feeling pretty decent until these last 24 hours.

My little Evie is suitably called a greedy eater. If she has to work the slightest, she’s having an absolute paddy. We’re going in to assess tongue tie but lactation specialist thinks she just can’t settle unless she’s getting instant gratification. Was so relieved though that I wasn’t doing anything wrong for / to her. So we’re pumping and supplementing a good deal. And eesh I’m so glad I’ve been seen outside hospital as hospital staff made me feel SO pressured to only breastfeed.

Hi!! So we had a manic 4 days of crying, screaming, bellyaches, runny poo, projectile vomiting, feeding erratically, and baby acne!!!!! My poor boys face is covered!! But it seems it was all a massive growth spurt! 7lbs 13ozs last Friday, then 8lbs 9ozs on Monday!!! Unbelievable 😂😂😂😂 seems to be settling back down now & face clearing from nose outwards 👌🏻

We are both doing really well thank you. I’m actually enjoying feeding this time around as feel much more relaxed and in control 😊 Amity is putting on weight and apart from thinking night time is awake time, she’s an absolute treasure so far 😉 Mind you, the nighttimes are my favourite part of the day because it’s just her and me and I don’t have to share! She had her first bath today - apologies if I’m sharing too many photos but my word she is scrumptious 😍

I did similar yesterday when all of a sudden I just got really tearful and when Frankie asked me what was wrong I just sobbed and said, “I don’t want to share her yet” 🤣 Amazingly he was very supportive and reassured me that it’s normal for me to have these feelings, and it’s okay. I was quite surprised actually!

I’m sad to hear you felt pressured/judged by the hospital staff. I had exactly the same thing with my first daughter who just wouldn’t latch on at all. I tried my bloody hardest but was told later that due to her somewhat traumatic birth, she was too stressed and probably had horrid headaches which made it difficult for her to feed. I remember wanting to go back to the hospital and tell the staff members who’d made me feel so awful! Sounds like Evie is obviously getting enough so that’s the main thing 🥰 Well done Super Mumma 💪🏻

In terms of tearing etc, I was lucky enough to only end up with a minor “graze” so haven’t had the dreaded aftermath this time around. With Dottie (my first), I had to have quite a few stitches and remember all too well how uncomfortable I was for about 3 weeks after and then all of a sudden I went to pee and suddenly realised I wasn’t clenching or feeling strange down there! XX

Gosh it sounds like you’ve had a really horrid few days - along with the usual newborn stuff I bet you’re totally knackered! Really glad to hear his face is clearing up now. I hope it continues to improve super quick xx

@CatD1980 what a scary and stressful situation! Glad your little one is on the mend. How are you holding up?

@AmyD0620 glad to hear Frankie was there for you! Have you had any guests around yet or managing to keep them away? My in laws arrive today and I thought of you as I’ve suddenly been feeling protective. Or there’s this feeling that no one else will read their cues correctly, you know?

And thank you for the affirmation. I’ve been feeling increasingly better about giving formula. My time is completely eaten away though by feeding attempts, pumping, formula sorting! At some point I shove some food in my mouth and close one eye!

@DaniFeb20 - Ooh the in law visits... my MIL is coming tomorrow - she’s lovely and generally harmless apart from to my mental health... very intense, talks (loudly) constantly and jumps from one topic to another and it’s bloody hard work so not looking forward to her being here the whole day. She won’t leave til ridiculously late and I’m always too polite to be assertive with her and Frankie’s more abrupt approach has no effect whatsoever. She loves our girls but shows no interest in them whatsoever which means they pretty much get ignored the whole time she is here and I end up feeling frazzled trying to share my attention etc. I hope your visit goes well and that any anxiousness is manageable for you. Just keep focusing on that time you’ll get with little one once the visitors have gone 🥰 I know EXACTLY what you mean about cues - it’s what I find hardest about anyone being with her other than my own family. I just don’t trust other people’s judgements sadly. One of SIL’s is coming next weekend too 😔

@AmyD0620 Funny story.. I’m in full on baby blues with in laws here, right (mostly because my family live in the states and I’m feeling so guilty that I’ve taken Evie away from them by making my choice to move to the U.K.). So I went to hide in our room to pump and hubby came in to check on me and I emotionally broke down saying irrational things but still acknowledging that it wasn’t right. Meanwhile, the baby monitor was still linked and feeding through to the living room where the in-laws were 😂.. we all played it cool and acted like nothing happened. One day done, six to go! But eesh my MIL sounds like a dream in comparison; she absolutely dotes on Evie. That’s really unfortunate that she’s like that with you all, especially the kids. It’s not even clear why she comes by then? Is it because she feels she has to, do you think? Sending you positive vibes or lots of tissues, whichever you need! Really tough to take our current states and combine it with someone who charges us up so much..Hope SIL is generally easier for you. x

Well his skin is so much clearer after I’ve been using child’s farm baby moisturiser on him!! Absolutely amazing stuff!!!! Hope everyone doing ok?! Xxx

Is anyone else having to formula feed? Evie has refused to latch and doesn’t have a tongue tie assessment until tomorrow (nearly three weeks after birth). I’ve been unable to keep up with pumping and feeding as she stays awake for an hour after each feed at least and it just hasn’t been manageable. The 5 pumps a day I generally manage are yielding less and less and she’s very happy and gaining spectacularly on formula... but I’m so upset about giving up breastfeeding. Anyone else have a similar experience? How did you let it go?

Hi this sounds really similar to us. And my little one did have tongue tie and had it done at 5 days old but was still struggling to latch so we’ve been using nipple shields ever since and I keep trying to latch him but it just hasn’t happened for us so we’ve been upping the formula each day as I don’t feel he is satisfied from me now and he seems to be a lot happier overall which is making me happier and feel it was the right decision for us. As you said about being upset about it it’s took me a while to feel ok about it too so I totally understand how your feeling 😊 hope that’s helped a little xx
