eczema woes

Gabe is just not getting better with the eczema. I give him a bath once a week now & that night was tonight - anyway the oilatum (fragrance free 1) seems to irritate his skin and he scratches even more (constantly scratches when undressed so has to have scratchmits even in the bath). The mitts dont help much tho as he just rubs like mad still. He goes mad in the bath as my fil held his hands to stop him scratching and I have never heard him scream so much while I quickly got him out the bath, put his cream on and dressed him. I just feel gutted cos he can't have naked time or a nice bath time which he used to love. We couldnt even take him swimming now. When will he get better? The emollient and steroid creams both really help but the skin is obviously so itchy x

  • Aww poor Gabe, Evan had bad eczema, no where near as bad as Gabes though and he had oilatum but I stopped using it and rubbed olive oil in his skin twice a day, now not saying this will work but maybe look at something more natural you never know, hugs to Gabe

  • Just keep moisturising loads in the day and use steriod cream as prescribed by gp (e.g. 2xdaily). You could also keep the creams in the fridge so they're nice and cold when you apply it to the skin, that will sooth him a little. Also, when you rub it in keep rubbing until all cream has disappeared, the rubbing may sooth him as well. x
