First tooth - cleaning?

My 5 month old has just got his first tooth and I'm wondering if I should start to clean it. I've got some toothpaste and a brush but should I use my finger to rub it on first? I've no idea where to start and would appreciate any advice you can offer, thanks xx

    my hv advised to start with something like a clean flannel and rub over the tooth (my los was 3 months so quite early) and then went he went onto solids and had more teeth I then introduced a toothbrush, got him used to that, then introduced the paste
