Nursery visit

Did our visit this morning and it seemd very nice. Charlotte liked it as well and played with the toys as soon as we went in the rooms. The lady showing us round said Charlotte was very social & outgoing!!

Only problem is have told OH how much it's gonna cost and he's umming & ahhing now. I told him it wouldn't be cheap and he was the one pushing me to put her in nursery! We claim child tax credit but as we don't qualify for working tax credit we can't claim for the childcare elelement of that which is poo in my opinion!!

Have got a couple of trial sessions booked for September so we''ll see what happens.....

Also am trying to book us in for some baby/toddler signing classes which start in September.

Hope everyone's well as don't get much time to come now ;\)

  • hi hayley, glad you and Charlotte got on ok at the nursery!

Yes, they are VERY expensive but worth it in my opinion! It is C*** about the tax credits, I got some money toward childcare until Sean lost his job, now they won't pay but he still needs free time to look for a job and I don't want Shea to have upheaval, plus if I remove him from nursery and Sean finds a job I'll never get the place back!!
So i'm struggling to find ??67 per week for two sessions but don't want to stop it!!

    glad you're all well anyway
  • Oh I'm so glad you've decided to do this, in principle anyway. It will give you such a break.

We don't get anything towards childcare either. It's rubbish.

What abouta childminder, that's what we do and it's cheaper than the nursery.
Charlotte would still get to play with toys etc and socialise with other children and you would get a break.

Either way I know it's expensive but it will be worth it if you feel a bit better in yourself. S x
  • re tax credits - you should be eligible - we dont get any working tax credits, but we still get 80% of childcare costs back through child tax credit...
  • i cannot get any towards nursery either total rubbish.we struggle as it is with our rent and everything else.our tax credits has gone down by ??70 a month as it is x
  • mummysteph I think the reason they can't claim is that hayley doesn't work - you both have to be in work to claim the childcare element!! Stupid I know but i've now lost it as hubby doesn't have a job as they say its now his duty to care for the child, although I don't know how a man is supposed to look for ajob / go to interviews with a toddler in tow!!!!
  • I'm confused now, I get child tax credit but no contribution to childcare. We're both working.
There must be another restriction. S x
  • do they know you pay for childcare?? You should get something toward it if you are getting tax credits and both work

mind you they confuse me! I used to get ??300 per month when hubby was working, now he's not I get ??80 a month - work that one out!!
  • I'm going to ring the tax credit helpline up and see what they say. It would be great if we could get something towards the childcare. OH's new job is rocky at the moment and the shit may hit the fan soon and he could be out of work again so that will complicate things as we wont be able to claim any tax credits then. Argghhh!!!
