Night time comforters
I'm struggling to get my LO to self settle, even though he's been doing it for 15 weeks, he has just decided to stop and it's been a bit of a nightmare! I heard from a couple of ladies who gave their LO's muslins with their smell on them so they could cuddle up to and it made me think, what do you all use?
My LO will take a dummy and it does settle him but then he cries when it comes out, so no use whatsoever. Anyone overcome this problem and still able to use a dummy?
I have a lovely Kaloo comforter that was bought as a gift and wonder if I can use this. Is it safe to leave the LO alone at night with a comforter or muslin? He's 16 weeks now but still sleeps with scratch mittens on, so I worry he wouldn't be able to pull it out of his mouth, if he stuffed it in there, if that is even possible. I sound like I right worryhead LOL!
What I'd love to know is what works for you? Thanks xx

We still use a dummy - but I take it out as he is dropping off to sleep so that it doesn't fall out and wake him later. I just pull it out very slowly and gently once his eyes are closed, as he sucks on it (rather than during the pauses) so that he ends up pushing it out himself. That way he doesn't wake up but is nice and settled.
Now that our LOs are a bit older I think you could probably leave a comforter in with them, at least for naps. The advantage of muslin is that it is breathable although I'm a worrywart like you and probably wouldn't feel confident about leaving him with it all night at this stage. You could always take it out of his cot when you go to bed? Then you would have the advantage of using it without the worry during the night.
Good luck whatever you do!

Muslins are fine as they are breathable so it won't do any harm, my ds even used to sleep with it over his face!!!
Also you can take them off them and wash and replace with another but comforter toys are harder to do
Might try a dummy/muslin tonight if he doesn't settle. Keep your fingers crossed for me xx
My DS has a kaloo bunny comforter which he likes to have his face touching however he's become a bit of a wriggler so as he snuggles into it he moves nearer to the edge of the cot bed. I went to him this morning and his face was about a centimetre away from the cot bumper!!!! So although it settles him am a little concerned and may need to remove it altogether now!!
I've considered putting a small cellular blanket in the cot too but again not sure whether he could choke on it!

It's great because it brought about the end of the nighttime dummy throwing and she can find the dummies herself and pop them back in if they fall out. But she got this when she was 6 or 7 months and it did take a couple of weeks for her to suss it out. She LOVES it now though!
Oliver stopped taking a dummy at about 9 weeks, think it hurt as he was teething and now he has "Henry" It's a little elephant comforter with an elephant head, ears and arms then the comfort bit and he loves it ! I take it everywhere and now I leave this in the cot with him and it's perfectly safe, he can turn his head if he can't breathe etc and if we put him over our shoulder he knows to turn his head so that made me realise he was ok.
Good luck
