Thanks all for your replies, Joanne I love that description it is perfect!! Things have started to sink in now, we had a social worker come out who specialises in the deaf children the day after we found out and it helped loads. He went into detail what the level of deafness meant and it is looking likely he is completely deaf. He gave me loads of information for groups in the area and what they do and they come out every 2 weeks to visit us and provide support which is fantastic.

The operation George will have just before his first birthday is a 3 and a half operation and sounds a little scary but I completely understand its his best chance of hearing. He did however say that with this level of deafness George will be going to a specialist deaf school rather than a mainstream school and I know that is years down the line but I think thats when it hit me the most.

I had an emotional day today as its been the first time I have been alone and once I started crying I couldnt stop but felt so much better for it!

I just wanted to say all your words are fantastic and I have just got to be a stronger mummy now for my little boy and my 2 girls as it will affect them too.

    Thanks all soo much xx

i'm really glad you've already been getting support and i am just so sorry they think it is so underdeveloped. george will do fantastically though and i am sure he will have no end of love and support from his family, siblings and your friends. i hope that you get all the help and support you need too. thoughts and prayers are with you.

hi, just posted on your other thread in the special needs section. I'm so sorry to here the results.

Abi has so far failed all her tests, she reacts to nothing, not even the other kids, giving the noise they make, thats really something.

I have been told it could be that her ears are blocked with mucus or her canals could be too small for the probes, DH has very narrow canals, and she was very mucusy when she was born so I thinking (and yes, hoping) that it is one of these or both.

We were going to do baby signing with her anyway so have got some flash cards and a book to start us off as I have a nearly 5 and nearly 3 year old too.

My pregnancy was normal so can't think of anything that would have caused it, could be one of those things I guess...
