Ideas

Hi,

I am due in October with my 2nd lo and am planning to bf as long as possible as I did for ds. Now my ds will be 21 months so will not fully understand what is happening and I am concerned how he will feel watching me feed his little brother but most likely thinking I'm giving him more cuddles.

Has anyone been in this situation and how did their lo take it? What tips do you have to make you first feel like they are not being left out?

I plan to try and encourage him to sit next to me for stories etc whilst reading and spending as much time as possible but just worried he will feel left out as can be a real mummys boy at times.

Thanks for any advice. (Also in stm)

  • Hi hun.

My first was three when my youngest was born, so quite a difference in age, but I just explained that it was how I feed the baby, emphasising "just like I did with you".

On occasion I expressed the milk and let my daughter 'help' feed her brother.

Think the key is to make them feel as involved as possible and remember that they understand a lot more than we give them credit for image

There are books around as well aimed at pre-school children to explain it, so maybe have a look out for them to read to your LO before baby arrives?
  • Hadn't realised there was bf ones, I do read him some new baby brother ones, but any that mention feeding have bottles in there instead of breast so might have to keep my eye out as he loves to be read to.

Thanks, know I am probably worrying over nothing just want to make sure both my boys will be happy. Feels great typing that last bit image

  • I've no personal experience of this but I read once that you could buy lots of little 'stocking filler' type treats, wrap them and put them in a special place, everytime you bf infront of your toddler he gets to open one of his presants x
