Low milk supply at 8 1/2 months

I've been exclusively bf-ing Samue for 8 1/2 months now. I've been feeling lately that my milk supply is much lower as my boobs don't feel full any more.

Samuel is staying with my Mum tonight as I'm recovering from a tummy bug. I'm pumping as I type and in 30 mins I've only expressed 1oz! That's from both boobs.

Any suggestions girls?

Samuel is bang on 25th centile which is what he was born on. His weight gain has always been spot on and his development is good. But he's very fussy at drinking fluids so I am getting anxious that he's not drinking enough.

I'm only doing 3 or 4 feeds a day now. I would like to carry on bf-ing but maybe it would be better to switch to mixed feeding now. I'm back at work part-time in Jan anyway.

What do you think?

  • I don't have a definite answer for you, but could you be a little dehydrated as a result of your tummy bug? I know if I haven't drunk enough/am dehydrated it does affect my milk supply.

  • Thanks both. I've switched to mixed feeding now for different reasons (PND!) and I've discovered that I am actually producing loads of milk! Boobs feel full again now I've dropped a feed. Hey ho!
