If you bottle fed

Which milk did you use with your baby and why?

With U we used Aptamil - but I can't remember why I chose it - it may be something as stupid as I liked the box design or it looked betterEmbarrassed

  • We use aptamil. It said on the packet it most resembled breast milk and I wanted to breast feed when my milk came in, never did so we just stuck with it

  • we used aptamil because I was under the impression it was superior to the others (maybe because of the cost).

  • Cow and Gate once he started on formula. I've heard from many sources that it's virtually identical to Aptamil but a quid or two cheaper.

  • I heard the same queencrunchy so researched and it's the same company I believe. I'm scared to change incase it gives her the poops though so I'm stuck with it.

  • I BF until 6 months and now he is on aptamil. I used it because I heard it's most similar to breast milk, though can't for the life of me remember where I heard it...

  • I used aptamil because my friend who is a paeds nurse recommended it, I've since found out that them and cow and gate are the same company

  • I breastfed until 7 months then switched to cow and gate. Again I'm another that heard it's the same as Aptamil but cheaper!
  • I used Hipp Organic with both of mine as it was the cheapest one. L was on Aptamil for a while until a recipe change caused her to have awful nappies.

  • We used Aptamil only because when the midwife asked me which brand I wanted her to bring back from the store cupboard that was the first one that came into my head!

  • We used SMA gold as I was trying to feed W myself and had to send H for baby milk as I was struggling.   that was the only stage 1 milk the shop had. Plus my mum used it for us, so I felt it was the right choice when we moved on to exclusively bottle feeding.

  • Aptamil as son was given it in the neonatal prem baby unit.

  • L was mostly breast fed, but had the occasional bottle of formula from early on and then moved completely to formula at nine months. We used aptamil, but I don't really know why, until about seven months when our local Tesco never seemed to stock it, so we tried him on Cow and Gate and never got round to changing back.

  • Aptamil comfort because he had reflux but the hv was worried at that point that it might be an underlying cmpi so I chose that one because it was thicker and would be gentler on his tummy. When we stopped his reflux medication, I switched him to aptamil 1. It was a lot more convenient to use the ready made bottles and I didn't want to carry on giving him a more specialist milk if he didn't need it.

  • With A he was mostly breastfed but occasionally we used Cow & Gate after he turned 6 months, it was cheapest and I figured as a supplementary post-weaning food then whatever would do kind of thing!

I have mix fed E so far, using the ready-made C&G purely as that's what we had last time but I've also bought a bottle of ready-made Aptamil to try.

  • We chose SMA due to the advert! The Aptimal ad annoys us but i like the SMA one!!
  • We chose SMA but after a bit felt that it was maybe a bit much for her. We switched to aptamil but the poo she had with it was just liquid and went everywhere. It was completely impractical. We switched her to Hipp which she's on now. It can be a bit of a pain as the small ready made cartons are often sold out and I tend to use them when out and about but it seems to be the one that agrees with her the most. I hate the packaging though and the fact you can't buy litre bottles of stage 1 ready made.

  • Hipp Organic. Started N on Aptamil but he was more settled on Hipp. We've been topping T up on C&G but changed to Hipp and he's much more settled. I'm bf him as well.

Think the Aptamil being more like breast milk is a myth, it's made by the same company who make C&G.

We used cow&gate after the mastitis became so difficult to treat. Only because their insanely controlling father was a paediatric nurse so his word was God given.🙄
