Does anyone work from home?

I'm new to this forum. I'm Liz, 26 & have a 6 month old boy called Spencer.
My MA ends in April & I'm looking at working from home but want to do something more than envelope stuffing!
My hubby has started to ask what I plan to do and it would be nice if I could surprise him and actually give an answer!

Literally any suggestions are welcome, apart from childminding.

Thanks x

I'd love to do something that uses my skills a little bit. Call me arrogant but I have a degree in English & History and 10 (nearly 11) years of work experience and I want something that I can be proud of. See, I'm really not that fussy LOL!

When I was made redundant the company set me up with a career advisor who suggested that I set up my own business. Erm, think I'd like to let someone do the initial set-up and I'll just jump on the bandwagon thanks!

I'd love to hear if/when you find something.
Hope to see you in the forums soon x

    Hi Pixie-woo,

As you have a degree in English, I imagine you may quite like reading - how about looking at doing a course and becoming a freelance proofreader? I am only 8 weeks and 3 days pregnant with my first, but I have been planning on how to work from home as well once the baby is born. I have a degree in translation and langauges and have been gradually building up a client base for translations so at least I may have some money coming in after the birth - fingers crossed!
    Good luck!

Oh that sounds brilliant for you sianita! I'm not jealous, much LOL. Congrats on your preg, hope you're feeling ok.

One of my friends does proof-reading but she seems unwilling to share the company details, I suppose that makes sense; the fewer people available, the more work she'll get.

Kimmi, do what you love, its the only way you'll keep at it. Let us know what you chose

what about some tuition?? Parents are always looking for extra help with English. Not sure if you would need some teaching qualifications though??
Write some short stories and send to mags???? A few travel agents and banks etc.. let you work from home networked up to them at head office??
    Prostitution!!!!!!!!!????????? kidding!
It is hard isnt it???? Proof reading is good and you could just write to all main publishing companies and see what you get back.
    Good Luck x

    Hey Lauren

I'm trying to search for proof reading at the mo too but all I can find is companies offering qualifications in proof courses. I'm now worried that I'll need to do a course before I can start looking for work. I can't afford to pay for a course so I'm stuck again GAHHH!

I'm going to keep looking so if I find anything I'll post a link on this thread.

I've just put my c.v on monster.co.uk and specified that I'm only interested in working from home. I've also noted that I'm most interested in proofreading or adminstrative/clerical work.

It took literally ALL yesterday to do it so I hope I'll get some return on my effort.

I've also found www.remoteemployment.com which is a recruitment agency specialising in working from home.

    Hi all!
I am mum to a 14 month old little girl. I started working from home for my old employer when my daughter was 6 months old, and I managed it fine until a few weeks ago, when she started walking and moving around too much. I realized I couldn????t meet my employer????s expectations any longer, and I was also feeling very detached from my company and colleagues, so I decided to quit and open my own business (www.nectarina.co.uk). I am importing baby girl and toddler clothes and handmade leather shoes from Spain and selling them on my website. I find it so fullfilling... I can work at my own pace when Isabella is in bed, and I can give her all my attention during the day, which I was finding very difficult before...
The business is still very small and I don????t even now whether it will work out or not, but I am enjoying it so far...
Opening your own business can be very daunting, but I think it????s the perfect solution for mothers who want stay at home and look after their children but still feel the need to do something for themselves...

Hi, I am also working from home which is great as it gives you so much flexibility. Worked for a big company before where I had to be out of the house by 7am each morning and now I really enjoy sleeping until 8am and then just go downstairs with my kids to have breakfast and start working at 8:30am. Much better work-life balance this way. The only downturn is that you get paid less, that's a tradeoff.

hey I am 15 weeks but also am already thinking about how I can work from home once baby is here.

I am contemplating going to uni next year, but baby will only be 6 months.. however its only 3 days a week and those days I am sure 'nan' could watch lo. If so I want to study media and communications, music. Basically it covers all areas of working in the music industry.

However faily that, being the big goth that I am, I am thinking about making corsets, skirts, victorian accessories etc from home, and setting up an ebay business! My boyfriend is also at uni you see, so money being tight is the only issue, as he wont have any money coming in bar his student loan image Therefore I know whatever I do, I need some way of making money!
