does anyone no when you get SMP? if they take tax/ni off that?

I dont think your tax code shoulod change just because your on maternity leave. Each month your entitled to 1/12th of personal allowance ( or whatever your annual allowance is based on your personal tax code) . If in the first month of SMP your gross taxable year to date pay falls below the cumulative tax allowance you should automatically receive a tax refund via your payslip. The next month if you do not use up all your tax free allowance because your pay is below the month amount allowed then you just wont pay any more tax.
