Working shifts with Lo

I'm starting a new job soon & it will be working shifts. We are moving house next month too so I am getting a bit worried to how I'll cope.

I have told the manager that I won't be able to work any later than or earlier than between 7.30am - 9pm on a week day as my mil (childminder) will be looking after lo. I won't be able to work nights on a week day as OH works nights permanently so there'd be no one there for lo and I wouldn't expect mil to have him overnight.

Weekends are OK as OH gets weekends off :\)

I'm not overly worried about lo as I know he'll be fine, he's so good for mil, and never seems to miss me at all, I'm more worried about how I'LL cope. Will I be knackered? Will the house be a complete tip?? Lo is a very demanding 15 month old and there is no way he lets me do much house work when he's awake. When will I get time to make Lo's food or cook us all proper meals?!

My old job was Monday - Friday, 4.30-8.30 so a really easy office job too. In this new job I will be on my feet all day too.

HELP. I will be working 20-30 hours a week btw.

  • Hi

I work 4 days (Wednesday off and no weekends). I am out from about 8am to 4.30pm. I find I have to be really organised and have a good routine. I try and make a day for doing certain jobs in the house so it spreads them out. I use a slow cooker to help with tea! I find it hard and tiring at times esp when I have loads of work to do for school, but routine for me works well. I do most housework when Lily is in bed due to her not liking the hoover or the ironing board!
