Leg cramps in a 3yr old

My 3yr old has just started to complain of what seems to be leg cramps and I wondered if this is something that can happen in toddlers. I have heard about growing pains in older children but not this young. Could it be growing pains?

She is otherwise fit and healthy; a feisty 3 year old

  • Hi Mrs Carrot - my 5 year old would moan and cry and sometimes scream her legs hurt her so much (this was when she was 3 - always and only at nighttime - bed time). Same with her feet too actually. We took her to the GP and he said growing pains - we would give her baby nurofen and i would also grab some body lotion and massage her legs (always the bottom parts of her legs) - had to do this for quite some time - like over the course of a few months.

Good luck with it - you're not alone!

  • Very reassuring, yes it seems to be in her lower legs. I hadn't thought about massaging her legs, this seems a good idea.

What a lot of things little ones have to go through without understanding what is happening to them.

I feel much better knowing that 'growing pains' can occur in toddlers http://www.madeformums.com/lib/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-smile.gif
     thank you x
