Carrier recommendations

I was just wonderng if anyone could recommend a carrier that is easy going on the neck/shoulders.

I have the Baby Bjorn Synergy but am finding this quite painful on my shoulders and neck (which I've had problems with for years). It's a shame because it's perfect in every other way and has great back support!!

i have a mei tai and with a severe back problem i can still carry her (on my front or my back). she is 21 months and 29lb8. much more comfer in these than bjorn types. i can hardly feel her weight. and they can be used with toddlers so they last.

my opinion doesnt normally count much on this forum but if you check out the links or google mei tai slings there will be alot of info on them.

  • Thanks Beccie. Will check them out!

Can you have them forward facing in these type of slings too? As she is very nosey!!
  • you can but they advice you not to because if not good for their backs, especially if you have boobs. my LO never had a prob of being able to be nosey whilst facing me.this photo was taken in may when she was 14 months old.

plus you can 'wear' them on your back. i'd quickly just put her in a back carry to show a friend when this photo was taken so shes not in it properly but it give you an idea.

  • I love my mei tai too. My ds is 20 months old now and i find no problem carrying him.

If you little one want to look around try putting her on your back or hip as these carriers are designed to go from knee to knee so the baby's hips are in the correct position so they can not really face forward on your front.

I also have a wrap which i love and find very supportive and comfortable but a bit more complicated to use but check them out.

  • I third a mai tai! But I've got a connecta so it fastens with buckles so you don't have to tie it each time. They're really compact and you can get loads of fabrics too! See here -

  • i have a connecta sling on loan from my sister and they are good too. i find it more fidly only on the basis that i have dexterity probs with my hands but they make back carrys easier.
  • I found the mei tai a bit of a pain tbh and it just didn't feel secure to me, although it looked lush!! I have an ergo and I looooooooooove it, is fab, my back never hurst when I wear it for hours and I suffer with backache thanks to my boobs lol!! You can breastfeed easily in them too image xxx
  • I have a Mai Tai and find it really good, I've not really used it on my back much yet though, but even my hubby has managed to work out how to put it on.
