Just a thought as I know you were looking for a suitable gravy for Ambers dinners. When I make pasta sauces for Katelin I use Kallo Organic stock cubes. They do low salt veg cubes as well as the usual ones, including chicken. All organic.
They are gluten and lactose free, are suitable for vegans and are 100% GM free and have no additives.

The ingredients are:vegetable fat-corn starch-yeast extract-onion-carrot-leek-celery-herbs-parsley-oregano-rosemary-thyme-garlic-spices(mace&tumeric)

Hope this is of some help.
Waitrose sell them.

Lucy that's very sweet of you to look all that up for me, it sounds great, i just need to check with Gillan as techinacally she can't have corn but it sounds as though it would be a minimal amount.

I'll let you know if we buy it and what she makes of it

I think you can also get them in Holland and Barratt. I had to use a yeast free stock by the same company.
