First hospital appointment - what to expect?

Hi ladies

I've not been on here for ages as I was driving myself insane with ttc so took a break from things. But just before Xmas OH and I decided this was going to be out year so thought it was time we went to the Doctors for some help.

I've now had my first bloo test and hubby has had his sample done too. I've got my first hospital appointment in about 10 days and I don't know what to expect? Will it just be a lot of questioning first? Should hubby be there too? I'm starting to feel very nervous image

  • hi Hun, I had my first hospital appointment a few weeks back.

My doc had already done my bloods and they were ok, he had also arranged hubs SA which was good. I went on my own as hubs couldn't arrange work around it.

Just prepare yourself as its usually in the same area where heavily pg ladies go for check ups, sweeps etc so I found it a bit upsetting being the only not pg in the waiting room!

The nurse took my blood pressure, weight etc then I went through to the specialist.

She was really nice and took time to talk through our results from doc, how long we have been trying, history, any gynae issues. She didn't see the point in re doing any bloods although I know some people have had their hospital redo the bloods and Sa.

She basically said we are 'unexplained' infertility, and was very honest about the limits of what the nhs would do for us. I was prescribed clomid, as an 'all they can do for us', and have booked me in for a HSG when next at af arrives.

I've got to go back in 4 mths to review the clomid.

I hope this helps and good luck with your appointment x
  • Hi Andi

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm wishing i'd asked OH to come now. What makes it more difficult is that my appointment is at the same hospital I work in and I'm only leaving my dept for the appointment. I know I'm going to be a mess when I go back

I don't think I'm going to be offered clomid coz of my bmi, my gp already warned me that i won't.

Thanks again for letting me know what happens. Hope you get some good news with the clomid. I'm sure I'll be on here after my appointment.

    xxx
