At 6 months I introduced finger foods and he loved being able to play with his food and feed himself. Toast quickly became a favourite along with rice cakes and pear. Although to start with a lot of his food ended up on the floor!
I used a splash mat under his high chair to help make it easier to clean up. I got one from mothercare but a plastic sheet would do the same job.
