We had a baby bath that actually sat on the rim over our bath, so we didn't have to bend over to wash the bubu in the bath which can really hurt your back - it was a Mothercare one which was ace. Loved it. A lot of my friends have just bathed their baby in the sink though!
We used the baby bath for about 15 months - definitely would get one. At the end of the day it's hardly a huge amount of money to 'waste' if you don't use it. For us it meant that we could bath DD on top of her chest of drawers and save our backs (both being over 6ft). In the summer I'll probably use it for her to play with in the garden as well.
I would also say don't waste your money, I picked up 1 for free on freecycle but my daughter was just slipping off it so instead I bought a bath seat (looks a bit like a deck chair) that I found works well until they can sit & then you can just sit them in the bath. Google summer baby bath seat.

Baby bath, sure was ok for about 2 months... When I've had this baby I will just use the normal bath I think. Don't waste your money x
