Yes a book definitely. I was God Mother a few weeks back and I bought a personalised traditional nursery rhyme hard back from mothercare on line. Easily worth the £16 I paid
being a godparent I have always bought a children's bible. other nice gifts were special personalised name/birth/weight things in frames from not on the high street.

I usually go for a nice classic book, we are going to one next month and I've got a book of classic poetry as a gift.
I usually get something like one of those Peter Rabbit/Beatrix Potter anthologies - like this www.thebookpeople.co.uk/.../qs_product_tbp
I had one when I was a littl'un and loved it, and always think books are a nice gift!
Thanks, lovely idea!
