New 'sperm switch' contraceptive for men: can you see it working for you and your partner?

Hello

We've just been reading about a new contraceptive for men, invented by German carpenter Clemens Bimek, which allows men to 'switch their sperm on and off'.

The Bimek SLV is a device that's implanted under the skin of the scrotum. It has little valves that are attached, when the device is implanted, to the ducts that carry sperm from the testicles – and the valves can be turned on and off by a switch that the man can press.

When the valves are switched off, the sperm cannot flow from the testicles to the penis, so the man becomes temporarily infertile.

Mr Bimek has had the device implanted himself – it's a 30-min procedure, done under local anaethestic – and now trials on 25 other men are due to take place this year.

But the big question is: do you think men would like the idea of being fitted with this 'sperm switch' contraceptive?

And, more to the point, do you think it would work for your partner and you?

We'd love to hear your views on this one. Please do add a post to let us know what you think.

  • HARHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Seriously are you taking the p*ss? Never gonna happen in a mllion years! Find me a man with one of these, please! Can safely say not one man i know would have this - and some of them have had the snip!

  • I do see that it's a clever idea but I can't see it doing much for the old sexy mood.'Hang on, darling, have you switched yourself off?' lol
