Talking from my own experiences. I think people who have had a difficult childhood have the same struggle. Parenting skills is one of the things we learn from our own parents. Keep telling you love them every day.
I don't think you can go too far with expressing love to your children, no matter what age, but as they grow older and you need to take a step back to give them some independence, you express love for them in different ways.
