Talkback: Travelling abroad during pregnancy

Replies

  • Please try not to travel long haul on your first trimester. I had a miscarriage the day after my honeymoon to Barbados. I thought the only risk was DVT so I made sure I moved around a lot. After speaking to top fertility specialists they explained that planes fly much higher these days and the problem is radiation. A flight from here to Paris us the equivalent to 2 chest x-rays, let alone an 8-10 hr flight to Barbados. Airlines are aware of this which is why they ground their staff when they know they're pregnant but my GP was clueless. I'm absolutely devastated!! Obviously they are exceptions to the rule but I don't intend on finding out again.
