IVF abroad advice

Hello all

I was hoping and wondering if anyone can provide any recommendations for IVF clinics abroad from experience.

Below is our journey to date...

Myself and my husband live in the UK I am 37 and he is 39.
We realised we may have a problem conceiving, I went to the GP who sent me for a bloods which came back as good showing normal ovulation etc.
My husband was referred for a semen analysis which showed a more negative result showing low sperm count and his morphology was 0% sadly.

The GP referred us to the local hospital for assisted fertility, the appointment was given immediately and we went for out first appointment two weeks later.  Which was brilliant I had presumed we would have to wait a long time for appointments.

The hospital visit was with a specialist fertility nurse who gave us some information and asked us to do some further tests.
Test to be taken by my husband to have another semen analysis.  He was also referred to a urologist, we have not had any appointments come through yet 3 weeks so far.
Myself I need to have a blood test in a few days on first day of my cycle then book in for HyCoSy.

Our next appointment to discuss these results is in 5 months.  Which is terrifyingly long, than further wait time for treatment and a baby we could be looking at 2years before we have a baba.

The NHS only allow you one child before you pay privately to have further children.  Additionally you are only allowed one embryo transfer.
NHS provide treatment in my district up till the age of 39years old.

My mind set at present is that it would be logical to go private and abroad as it will be cheaper than here in UK hence more affordable for us.
For child two we would have to explore the private route.

Additionally to have a two embryo transfer which is allowed abroad and hope of a twin pregnancy that would complete our family once.
I know some people are against this, however for us and our ages it makes sense.

I believe from my own research we would need to have ICSI treatment.

I would really like and be grateful for some advice and recommendations.

Thank you so much for reading this and I hope you can help.  X

  • Hi Amelia,

If I were in your shoes I would go for private treatment abroad- there are no waiting lists. I started my prep in late November into December and I had my transfer in January and had a positive result yesterday! I went to Cyprus to a clinic called Duniya who I thought were amazing from start to finish. We had been trying naturally for 6 months but as I was turning 40 at the end of this year I couldn’t leave it to chance!

You can also also freeze any additional embryos for future use which means you would only pay for storage and transfer for the next one.

Its all such a minefield- which clinic do u go to, uk or abroad, then which one to trust! I think everyone goes through this. It’s not cheap- I think In all we spent £10k - that’s tests, meds, ivf and PGd, travel and hotel. We got shat we wanted so happy to have paid that price.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Raj

Thank you for responding.  I have started to look into treatment abroad and Duniya did appeal to me.
I have also had contact with Dr Aksoy’s coordinator in Istanbul too who has been the most helpful so far.

Duniya seems to have more reviews, my contact with them has been the early stages.  They have quoted me less for ICSI I think 3000euros, however they obv don’t include medications and tests in that fee.

Where did you stay during your stay?
  • I stayed at a gorgeous resort called Acapulco which was about 15 minutes away by taxi. We only went to the clinic twice during my time there- first for egg collection and then for transfer. I just wanted to be somewhere I could relax, not worry about cooking and make it feel a bit like a holiday! We stayed for an extra 4 days after transfer so I wasn’t rushing around after the transfer and giving myself the best chance (so I felt) but the dr did say carry on with normal life. I was like this is my life right now as everything I did went back to desperately wanting to be pregnant!

Its invasive treatment- the standards of Duniya made me feel like if I had to do this, at least I’m in the best place!

I read that Duniya are in the top 10 of best clinics in Europe so that also gave me reassurance.

The doctor was brilliant- can’t thank him enough for all his reassurance but mostly my coordinator whom I felt I knew before I even met her at the clinic as I was so used to being in touch with her! She sat through both procedures and was with me everywhere I went to make sure I was ok. I really appreciated having her there when I was so anxious as my husband was not permitted to be in the room.
