Son bit through bottom lip! Hard lump in mouth now?! Help!

My 5 year old son fell off his bike and put his top teeth through his bottom lip. It was a bad gaping wound. We had to get it stitched in the er. This was 2 weeks ago and I'm so stressed about it still.
The inside is healing nicely, almost done. However my growing concern is the hard scar tissue he seems to have inside his lip now.
You can see it when he smiles. The side of his mouth that got hurt is bigger. Will this lessen? Is it too soon to tell?
Please share experiences!
