  • Weird i was gonna put a post up bout birthin balls! I've seen the gym balls in argos for ??4.99 is it ok to use them or does it have to b a specific birthing ball?
    xxx
  • oooo-I was going to ask that as well, Ive heard the exercise balls are just the same, I was looking at the ones in boots but none of them say birthing ball-so I just wanted to check first.
Im at the hospital tomorrow for my diabetes test so ill ask them there, but I just wondered if anyone had any experience with them.
    xx

  • I've got a Reebok gym ball and I'm using that - is there any difference?
  • That's what i was wonderin as well, the only difference i can c between them is that they charge more for birthin balls
    xx
  • Ive found one for ??14.99 with a pilates DVD and a stretchband, I thought that was quite reasonable, I might check Im ok to get that one at the hospital tomorrow and then get that. I obviously wont bother with the band or DVD until after lo's here, but they might come in handy when Im trying to shape up again.
To be honest I cant see there being a differnce either, except for the fact that if they call it a birthing ball they can charge you twice as much.

  • There's no difference at all between birthing balls & gym balls! I remember someone saying on the April forum, that their midwife had said.

I just have a cheap gym ball from argos. They are very good for pelvic pain. I was suffering with it mildly but a quick bounce on the ball seemed to loosen everything up! I want to use it in labour as well but was wondering are you allowed to take them in the hospital? Or do hospitals provide them? I have heard of them being used whilst in hosp but I'm not sure! xxx
  • I think the hospitals provide them, if they dont you will be aloud to take yours in I should have thought. If your not sure Id give them a quick ring tomorrow or ask your midwife. Better to make sure before hand then assume that they'll have them and be told once your in labour that they dont but you could have used yours if you'd brought it.
Im pretty sure my friend had one and that the hospital provided it, but Im not sure, my sister never mentioned them-but she had to be monitored when she was in labour so she was stuck with the old laying on the bed method xxxxx

  • My hospital has a ball in each room. The midwife said that there is a good reebok one in argos for about 9.99. I got mine from woolies! One thing is to make sure it has an anti burst feature!

  • I bought a birthing ball and on the website they say they're antiburst which is why I didn't buy an exercise ball. I don't know if it matters much but your hips and knees have to be so many cm's apart (10 ish) and there are different diameters for your height.

    I got mine from www.birthease.com

    Quick delivery too.
  • Ooo... i wondered what they were actually meant to do for you? xx
