I was watching portland babies last night Helen and a woman was followed through her pregnancy doing all that. She was adamant that she was having no pain relief but that at the birth. She ended up having gas and air, then begging for an epidural and in the end had to have a c-section anyway due to the baby being to big for her pelvis. I suppose its all up to the individual. Sorry I can't be of more help.
I was v lucky and won a place on a course through the comps on this site! http://www.hypnoclinic.net/ It's normally be ??315 for the 2-day course including CD & book.
I'll post on here once I've done the course - in early July, I'll be 35/36 weeks. I've heard really good things about it, but not sure how much actually applies on the day and how much goes out the window! I guess the proof will be in the pudding... due 7 Aug!
