Development check??

I've been to the HV today as the woman (another hv) who runs the baby group we go to expressed concern that Gabe was not weight bearing, sitting or rolling. So he has a development check on Monday. Also my HV has had a look at his eczema and says she is going to refer him to a dietitian because eczema is an allergy and it could be caused by something he is eating or drinking.
Has anyone got any personal experience of this?

Also he has only gained 8oz (and prob less as he was weighed with vest on - hes 19lb 9) in 3 or 4 weeks...is it normal for lo's weight gain to slow down once they start weaning? He hasnt reduced his milk yet really.

  • Hi hun, with regards to the ecema it could be an allergy. Ashton had it really bad before the changed his milk and although its not completly gone it has improved loads. Try not to worry about the development check on Monday as babies all develop at thier own rates! xxx
  • Hi. Hope everything goes well on Monday, it does sond like they re being very over cautious though. Nathans weight gain has slowed since weaning but I work on the day of the clinic now so dont know what he is at the moment.

  • Chloe had really bad eczma when she was a baby. It started when she was about 8 weeks old. Was given diprobase cream but that didnt work, she still had it really bad untill she was almost 5 months old then doc gave me steroid cream and it cleared it up within 3 weeks. She had it on her face, it was horrible for her. But youd never know she had it now. They never said anything about allergies to me.

  • I know eczema can be related to lactose intolerance and dairy allergies - but not always! It does sound a bit like the HV is over reacting but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry!
  • Yeah it did seem a bit extreme! I've been using the diprobase twice a day and it has improved, last week it seemed nearly gone, but its come back again quite bad. GP said use the cream twice a day but the HV said for it to work you should use it 4 times a day so we will try that before steroid cream. xx

  • I was applying it upto 8 times a day on advice from doctor, who was a skin specialist. It didnt work at all. So steroid cream was the only other option, it was so bad and with it being on her face we had to keep mittens or socks on her hands all the time or she would be trying to scratch allm the time. She also stopped sleeping properly when it was at its worst.

  • Love don't worry a jot about the development check as the other girls have said & as we are all told every baby develops at their own rate & they are all bloody different!

For instance my Ellie is 7 & a half months & has lost weight in the past 2 weeks due to refusing all food so she is 15lb now whereas my friend's LO was 5 & a half lbs heavier at the same age & there was only 4oz difference when they were born. Ellie sat later than my friends LO but she has started crawling earlier, they are all mad different & tbh I think in a way its great your HV has asked you for the check but it doesn't seem necessary.
Anyway my rant over hope all goes well on monday xx
