I would get her something tha the baby will use or wear as time goes on, not immediately. Toys, grobags, something to keep her occupied in the car or clothes that she will grow into within the year, and not things which are very newborn. but if you want something different, why not adopt an animal for a year in your local zoo? London Zoo charges about 25 pounds a year I think.
I got gievn a keepsake box which was a great idea, all scan photos and keepsakes are in one safe place togeether whcih is lovely. Or what about the casting kits for hands and feet - always think they are a nice idea?
I was given gormet meal vouchers as a gift which meant I didn't have to cook any dinner if I didn't feel like it (which I didn't!). I could choose what I wanted to eat and it was delivered to me. I think you can get them at Babes With Babies.
