  • Morning ladies,
@KristinO1987 you look beautiful, pregnancy suits you, definitely not elephant like!!!

@Sj83 what centile are you following on your growth charts, do u feel like he’s a small baby compared to your others or do u tend to have smaller babies? I think Iv got a big boy on board compared to my last 2. My last 2 were only in the 6lb range ans amd I think this ones going to be an 8lb one for sure. I’m struggling more with this one than the other two as my centre of gravity is off as I’m all bump and keep stumbling. My back is also off too which isn’t helping.

Last week at the midwives she asked the gp to prescribe me some omeprazole for my acid and my god has it worked, it’s amazing, I’m hardly needing any rennies or gavoscon now!
However this week I’m suffering badly with hayfever and can’t take my usual medication for it, I’m just stuck with eye drops and nasal spray! So if anyone has any good home remedies let me know, I usually end up on steroids every year as it gets that bad 😩

Iv had a delivery this morning of baby monitors, co-sleeper and the isofix base so starting to all get a bit real now! My wardrobe fitters are still here and I’m hoping it’s there last day today as my upstairs is a bomb site, they are doing 2 bedrooms at once so it’s a real mess!!!
  • Mine have all been quite average 7.4 , 8.4 and 8.8 so not small At all I dont feel small and even the the lady doing the heart monitoring said my bump looks a lot bigger then 28 weeks his currently on the 5th centile got my next scan on friday and glucose testing Saturday
  • Sorry I have been quiet guys. Stupidly I decided going London for few days last week in this heat was a good idea. My feet and ankles and legs did not agree and swelled up so much i looked like a rag doll with no joints or bones and have only just gone back down 🙈

Due to past operations for a medical condition I have, my maternity consultant want me to have a planned c section at 37 weeks to avoid emergency sections as I will need a urologist on hand to supervise to protect other operations. Im just panicking atm though as  understand the need for planned section, however they just want to have a normal urologist to supervise rather than a specialist which I wont have confidence in that they be able to know what they are looking at never mind what to do.

Ill be 30 weeks tomorrow. Its going so quick and feel like I have no idea how to look after a baby xx
  • @Stokiejodie I understand your worry but try to relax. Planned c-sections are so much safer then emergency and the risk of damage to your bladder will be minimised. With my first I was a crash section and they ended up bruising my bladder and cause addition bleeding resulting in a catheter for 5 days and abdominal drains as they struggled to get him out as he ended up stuck in my pelvis. With my daughter is was planned at 38 weeks, they took their time and I had no problems whatsoever. If you look at your anatomy when pregnant your bladder sits really low and is under your uterus. So they shouldn’t go anywhere near it. The worry is if you were to go in to labour then your baby will of descended right down which would most likely push ur bladder up slightly which is why they don’t want to risk it and deliver at 37. As for the urologist try not to worry, as a ward sister who works in surgery I know there are many of us nurses that would rather have some of the registrars operate on us than some consultants!! You will be in safe hands I’m sure x
  • @MrsH02 thanks for your reassurance, I just dont have any confidence in the urologists where I live as they know nothing about my operations or condition to the point that I'm teaching them and explaining what it is and how the operation works as they have never heard of it 🙈 ive got an appointment with then on 21st so if they start asking me stuff like what is it, I'll be saying I want a specialist to supervise. There is only 38 people in the country who have done the operations so its not like its a common thing that they can just blag and wing it on the day.

I cant remember if your from the UK or not but if you are get some body shop elderflower eye gel. Its meant be really good for hay-fever suffers if put it around eyes and nostrils to keep pollen away. Or order the acupuncture bands online my dad uses them like an elbow bandage thing with a little ball that presses on a certain part. Similar to the travel sickness bands you can get. Xx

  • @Sj83 I have my glucose test on Saturday aswell then my next growth scan on Tuesday. Think my baby was on 6th centile so inbetween the middle scale and bottom. However each scan its measuring small its stayed on the same line so is growing normally they just said ill probably just have a small baby. Me and the dad aren't exactly tall at 5 ft 6 so should be ok xx
  • Hope you enjoyed your London trip apart from being exhausted I Agree that a planned c section sounds a lot better then a emergency one be more calmer these weeks a flying by so fast I've got my next growth scan Friday So sill see if his staying on his line they havnt mentioned yet if it might mean I'd be induced early or not but stupidly been googling loads and stressing my self
  • @Sj83 if it stays on the same line it should be fine and just means its normal for the baby to be small. Its so hard to not Google.

Think I'm going have to buy some tiny baby clothes if the baby is small anyway and going be delivered 3 weeks early xx
  • Yeah I would do I've only got 0-3  and 3-6 was thinking the same I might get a few small bits aswell Just in case at least with a c section you know your date I was induced last time and was so much easier rather then rushing to hospital in labour am slightly panicking alas it's getting closer on getting to hospital On time and making sure the other kids are ok my mum bless her today said shes started getting a over night bag ready for when she has to look after the kids 🥰
  • @MrsH02 thank you 😊 as for allergy stuff, I’ve taken benedryl a few times (an antihistamine) and it has worked good enough. I think all the extra blood flow just makes my general congestion worse. It does feel real getting more baby stuff! I’m looking at all this stuff from my baby shower and realizing that baby could come in 6 weeks! Or maybe 11 weeks 🤣 who knows

@Stokiejodie I hope you enjoyed your trip besides the swelling. Mine is so annoying! My fingers will swell up like sausages at the drop of a hat if I go out in the heat 😬 I might have to stay inside all summer, which is my normal plan anyway 😉 planned c section sounds good for you. I think you’ll have plenty of time to plan and make sure you have the right people there for the best delivery for you and baby 😊

Im kinda jealous of the planned deliveries since I never know when my babies are coming. Not knowing is a little bit fun, but also hard to plan for. Mostly for work and I guess childcare too. I think I will stop working at 40w either way though.

@Sj83 @Sj83 Sounds like your mom will be very helpful when the time comes! I think I am just going to wing it for my kids. They will probably just be around during the birth since I will be at home. Maybe my mom will be around, but who knows. Last time, my mom came down and stayed with me from about 38w and baby didn’t come until 41+1. Felt like forever since we were just sitting around for 3 weeks waiting for baby to come lol. And my daughter ended up being in daycare for the whole labor and delivery anyway, so my mom wasn’t even really “needed” 🤣 this time with the pandemic, my kids aren’t in daycare and it will be summer, so no school either. They will definitely both be at home the whole time so who knows 🤷‍♀️

Talking about baby size, I have had two very different sized babes, first was 7lb7oz and second was 10lb7oz, so who knows what will happen this time?? 😋 this baby feels very sturdy and strong already at 31w, so I’m sure she will be at least 8lb if she comes at the normal time. I just saw my midwife today and she said she will start estimating baby’s weight by palpating my belly at my next appointment in 2-3 weeks. She also asked if I wanted a growth scan, but I declined. I don’t need any extra testing, I can tell baby growth is just fine 😉 sometimes her kicks really hurt! Luckily her feet are out to my side and not up in my ribs
  • Hey mummies! i've been completely off the site for a few weeks, mainly cause i've been finishing work and it's been hectic! I've stopped working now which is good because im overly tired! being pregnant with a crazily active 2.5 year old is exhausting! Plus, it's so hot here in italy... most days i can't even leave the house because i feel like fainting!

Anywho, i did my glucose test a few weeks ago which was perfect. i was expecting it to be high because all i crave is sugary stuff with this pregnancy...instead i was super surprised to see it was completely normal! I have my final scan next week (official one.. i still have 1 or 2 with my gynae after this one) and ill be 30 weeks. Im seriously hoping to give birth before my due date which is end of august.. the thought of giving birth with this heat kills me!!

Italy becames "white zone" on Monday, so no more restrictions (aside from masks still to be worn).. im hoping that this means that my husband can come visit me in hospital...not just while im pushing baby out (which is the rule now)...

quick question: my first boy was a winter baby... how do i need to dress a summer baby in hospital??
  • Hey all, hope everyone’s ok and bearing up in the heat!! I don’t know about you but the exhaustion has certainly hit me now and I am struggling! Following my last midwife appointment I was put on iron as they weren’t happy with my hb for 3rd trimester so that may be contributing to the tiredness.

@EmPa I’m having exactly the same in wondering what to dress baby in once he’s here. My daughter was a September baby and it was still warm but I can’t really remember what I put her in as it was nearly 17 years ago 🙈.I looked at a couple of hospital pics and she’s in long sleeved tops and bottoms! I’m just going to pack a variety of bits in my hospital bag when the time comes and wing it! I think you still have to dress them relatively warm as they aren’t great at regulating there temp as soon as they are born.

Well the pram came on thurs and Friday we got it out and put it all together. It’s all starting to feel very real now. I have my obstetrics appoint on thurs so am hoping to find out when il have my section.

Hope you’ve all had a good weekend x

  • @EmPa I'm exactly the same I was thinking short sleeve stuff with trousers or maybe shorts as be too hot but everyone saying still long sleeve and leg baby grows. I dont want baby being too hot.

I've realised now I've been told that baby is probably coming at 37 weeks that I'm even more clueless than I thought. I have no idea how to look after a baby 😬 hopefully it will be really quick and easy to pick up but I'm going be thick and clueless when its first here.

For people who are bottle feeding, what formula are you going with ? There are so many to pick from 🙈 people say aptamil is the best, although expensive, my other half used SMA with his other children. Also I was asking him how to make a bottle like how many scoops you put in for how many ozs. He said with his last one (6 years ago) it was 1 scoop for 1 oz, however Internet says 1 scoop to 2oz. So now dont know if its changed or her did it different xx
  • @Stokiejodie try not to worry when baby is here it will all come naturally and I’m sure you will be great.

As for the milk, every formula is different so probably different scoops (it should tell u on the tin). Yes it definitely was 1 scoop per oz as far as I can remember but that was 18 years ago 😂😂 as that’s the last time I used it. I too used sma however this time I bought some aptamil pre pack bottles just incase he’s a hungry boy and my milk isn’t enough.

If I remember rightly I was always told a baby will cry when too hot but not when cold therefore better to keep them warmer. Also we will feel the heat more than they will especially after you’ve had them when ur hormones are all over the place.
  • I will be using aptamil and its normally one scoop to every 1oz water but it will tell you on tin @Stokiejodie you will soon be a natural wr have all been there I completely clueless at 22 with my first at first lol and at least you have your oh for support
  • Thanks @MrsH02 and @Sj83. I hope I do pick it up. I just get really anxious with new stuff and worry when probably dont need to.

@MrsH02 where did you find you starter packs of aptamil from ? I've not been able find any and even online say out of stock apart from amazon who want £19.99 for a pack which is £8.50 !!!

I didnt know whether order some of the sma starter bottles for hospital as can get them then use aptamil at home or will that upset babies stomach changing milk ? Xx
  • I've had a lot of trouble finding them aswell I think they was making changes to all ready made formula so stock been low I finally managed to get two boxes by doing a Tesco Online shop I prob would stick to one brand ideally but some people do change if they dont think baby is happy on milk
  • @Stokiejodie I found a pack in Tesco’s, it was the last one on the shelf so thought I’d grab just incase I don’t see anymore
  • @Stokiejodie Also FTM here & will be trying aptamil with little man first. Yes, there's been a massive shortage of the ready made bottles & especially the starter packs 😑 I think a lot of looking after babies is just winging it & getting into your own routines etc...we'll crack it 😊

Blimey!! These weeks are absolutely flying by 😱 I had my baby shower on Sunday with a few friends & family. Totally new experience, but absolutely loved every second 😊 Didn't enjoy walking the 5 mins back home afterwards though 😂 31 weeks today, there's still more growing left to do & the movements get painful sometimes 😳
  • Thanks everyone I will try tesco. Im kicking myself now as I saw some in morrisons months ago and thought no im not buying milk yet its too early 🙈 wish I had now. I think ill just have to do a hunt round all the supermarkets and boots to try and find some somewhere as im not paying over double the price for amazon ones xx
