Ambers new milk!

Amber's just been put onto the advance version of her specialist milk Neocate. It contains more calories and vitamins or a lttle more of everything she needs as the dietitian put it!!

It's a bit confusing as the powder comes in 10 sachets (rather than in small tins) and 1 sachet makes up 400 ml of milk so it's going to be hard just to make an extra bottle when needed but i'm sure we'll get used to it.

The really good bit is that we can also order it in flavoured!! i think they do this because as a childs taste buds develop they sometimes refuse neocate as it tastes horrendous!! The pharmacist has offered to alternate between flavoured and plain so that i can offer amber flavoured milk in the afternoons or as treats! (but i need plain too to mix in her food)!!

Also to update you all Amber's now on Pear, potato cauliflower (all deinately ok) carrot and now spinach! Unfortunately she was intollerant to raisins
We're seeing the dietitian and the consultant next thursday and they're going to do blood tests to check amber is ok nutritionally. will hopefully get a few more answers too

  • Good news about the milk Tasha. Hope all goes well with Amber's tests.
  • Thanks ladies

Claire, i swear Amber would drink mud water, she's just not fussy!!! Gillan tried the neocate when we were weaning her onto it and nearly cried at thethought of her having to have it!! She had become intollerant to soya so we had no choice xxx
  • Hi Tash,

That is really great news about Amber. Shame about the raisins though. Hope the blood tests go ok.

  • Hi Tasha!
Great news about the Milk! Is Amber enjoying it??

What a pain about the raisins as they are good for a snack, but i guess you will find other foods for her to munch!!!
  • Thanks for all the replies

she hasnt started on the new milk yet as we had an opened tin of the old stuff left and at £38 a tin it seemed awful to waste it (we don't pay it's on prescription)
I'm looking forward to being ablt to offer her something new i think the flavoured milk is just vanilla but still it's new to her!

I was gutted too caroline about the raisins as like you say they're a great snack and i really found it hard at tots today not having anything to offer her. The problem is that everything has to be cooked to break dow the sugars.

still she's come a long way lately so i really should be greatful and not moaning!!! xxxx
  • great news about the milk, bet she'll love the new flavours!!

hopefully soon, she'll be able to have a different snacky food!!

    Amber, enjoy!!

    kas xx
  • Hope Amber will enjoy her new milk and that it suits her ok. Shame about the raisins. What will Amber be trying next to eat?
    lol. x
  • Amber will next be trying......................
...................absolutely anything she finds on the floor! Honestly, I swear my niece has radar!!

Tash, gutted about the raisins, she loved them so much, but glad you got the milk, Mum said that you were worried that the Dr's may play you up.

Love to the kids x x xx
  • Tasha that is great news, it does seem a shame about the raisins though. I am pleased about the new flavours too at least now she can have something a little different. Amber is progressing really well now on these new foods, i hope she continues. xx
  • Amber started on the new milk yesterday and was quite happy with it

It's a pain to make up though it comes in a sachet and you have to make 400mls at a time and can't do single bottles.

I ordered her a box of the flavoured milk today, banana and vanilla!!!
    xxx
  • That's good she enjoyed her new milk!!!
Once you've made the milk up can you store it in the fridge, or does it have to be used straight away?
  • Yes glad she liked it and hope she'll like the new flavours
  • thats great news
  • Dawn, you can store it for 24 hours so i just make up a few bottles like i used to. The problem is i have to whisk it in a great bg jug then pour it into the bottles!!!
also amber only needs just over 1 and a half sachets a day and i feel guilty wasting it as it's mega expensive!
