A couple of qs about IUI and NHS
Hello all,
I hope you don't mind but I have a couple of questions that I wondered if anyone on this board could answer. I have a condition called cervical stenosis which basically means that my cervix keeps sealing over - my period can't get out and sperm can't get in. I got this condition after having part of my cervix removed to treat cervical cancer last August.
I'm hoping to be referred by my GP next week to the assisted fertility unit for IUI, in the hope that the sperm can do their job if they get past my blocked cervix. Does anyone know whether the waiting list for IUI on the NHS is shorter than the list for IVF? (which is currently 12 months in my area)
I have emailed one of the consultants at the assisted fertility unit (I think he's the head honcho) and explained my medical history and the problem I am having and his response was 'you need a referral from your GP but we would be delighted to advise you on your treatment options'. Do you think that given my background it will be an easy job to get my GP to refer me? Is it as simple as just asking him for one?
Thanks in advance
Sarah xx

In answer to your other question I can't see why your GP wouldn't make the referral you have a medical condition that stops you getting PG naturally so you should have it on the NHS.
Don't know if I've been much help as it's not me personally?!
Best of luck for the future

I am hoping that I will get a referral when I see my GP on Monday. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!
