Confused!!

I had an em-cs last year after a failed induction and im currently about 5 weeks pregnant. I was speaking to a midwif the eother day about ges diabetes (this is why i was induced with 1st) and I asked what would happen if i had it again as i'd heard that they dont like to induce a previous section in case of scar rupture. she seemed really confused and said no they'll still induce you if they need to but monitor you really closely.

This confused me and made me think, if im being monitored constantly like last time (i was stuck on a bed for 8 hours) Then its not going to encourage labour? I didnt have a single contraction last time after 5 days and it was very diheartening.

Will they induce me? Can I refuse to be monitored so i can move around and hopefully promote labour?

  • its very unusual for them to use the drip on a vbac lady as it's far too intense and can cause scar rupture, and i cant see hwo they could mointor u any more, as i knwo from my own experience that the minute that drip went in i was stuck to the bed continually monitored for 10 hours (like u, i believe that contributed to the lack of progression). however i would'nt recommend u refuse monitoring, they do it for a reason (ds ended up in distress, hb decelerations and if hadn't been being monitored we wouldn't ahve known, mind u if i hadn't bveen stuck to the bed he may not have got distressed in the first place). i'm 15+3 with baby no2 and hoping for a vbac in december, i was induced with ds due to high bp and pre e, plus this time i also have a very high bmi so mor elikely to get gd, so it could be likely that they'll want baby out early, i spoke to the mw about this and she said it'd be discussed with the consultant and a vbac specialist later on but in some cases they will indcue with just the gels/pessaries but if they don't work they'll just then go for c section, i'm hoping this will eb the case for me, and i'm also hoping that unlike last time they stick to the minimum of 6 hour gaps between gels rather than leaving 24 hours between each one...dragging the whole thing out for nearly a week! if they use the gel or pessary they do not have to monitor u constantly but as a vbac they will want to monitor u regularly, prob for 15-30 minute every hour, so u'll ahve at least 30 mins off the monitor between each set of monitoring, iyswim? also they do have the monitors taht acn be clipped to baby's head allowing u some movement (around the room, but no great long walks), and i'll be making sure i get those this time as soon as i'm dilated enough, and as far as i can see there is no need for constant monitoring unless they use the drip, and its highly unlikely they'll use a drip on vbac. hth xx
