Hope you can help!!

We are trying for baby no 2 and am desperate to know if i will be given another section!!

I had my daughter four years ago by emergency section and and would want another section should we be lucky to be blessed again.

What or where do i stand in asking for one??

  • make it clear from the start that u would like a cs, they may still try to persuade u down the vbac route, but stand ur ground, they can't force u into a vaginal birth as if anything went wrong and ended in an emergency situation or ur scar ruptured during labour etc u could sue them as u had requested an elective c section in order to avoid that etc etc...also if they are polaying ahrd ball mention the scar rupture risk, a very small, but very real risk...u'll prob find that ur mw will ask ur intentions at booking, then u may see a consultant at 20ish weeks, but they don't need a decision until 36weeks (and even then u can change ur mind)... in my own experience, it's much easier to get an elcs if u don't mention any interest in vbac, but as soon as u seem like u may want a vbac then they will like to push u down that route...but they can't force u either way. xx
  • Thankyou so much for your reply!!

It has taken me four years to get to this point of wanting to try for another baby after longing for another.

Am making an appointment with gp to discuss what actually happened with first labour as it wasn't explained at the time, which i don't think has helped me except what happened to my 'perfect' birth.

Again thanks for your reply has made me feel easier about what could be!
  • hi, ur more than welcome. re ur last labour, speak to ur hv team or ur hospitals maternity department, in mmost areas they run a scheme called 'birth after thoughts' or similar, u can sit down with a midwife who specialises in counselling and they will ahve ur notes therte and go through ur labour/birth notes with u, and if they feel it's needed refer u for further counselling,ur hv should be able to point u in the right direction, or contact PALS...i found it amassive help after my emcs with ds, my gp had diagnosed me with pnd, but after going through my notes and having counselling it turned out i actually had post traumatic stress from the birth, and just from that i started to feel an awful lot better. xx
  • o i was gonna ask this we are thinking about trying for no2 too, dd was also born by emerg c section and i want another c section as don't want to go to go through an emerg again, so thank you from me to image
  • Just a quick update, have been to see my GP this afternoon and is requesting my notes (as i went to a hospital out of area) and has asked me to go back in a weeks time to discuss what happened. She has also said that it might be an idea to refer me back to the hosptal as an out patient to get me some counselling, and for me to meet up with my consultant to me discuss another section before i actually get pregnant.

    feeling loads better already!!!

    Can't wait
  • i had a bad time of it with my son and ended up with emcs in may 2009. I didnt want to go through it again this time so requested planned csec. They did try to pursuade me to try vbac. made me feel guilty for not even been willing to try. went through a whole list of negatives for csec, saying i wouldnt be able to lift me son, would have to leave him to stay in hosp..etc etc ..proper guilt trip!

I have to go back at 36wks april 4th to give them me decision. Im gonna go with the planned csec. not gonna let them force me into something i really dont want.

Hope everything goes well, and goog luck with the TTC.xxx
  • If you want a repeat section then you should defo be able to get one, like others have said just make it clear from the start that that's what you want.

    good luck xx
  • Hi, I feel the same and totally get where you are coming from. My daughter is four now and ive put off having another purely because i am scared from my last experiance!

Am ttc and have already been to see my gp and voiced my fears about not having a elec c section and am currently waiting for an appointment to go and see my consultant from first pregnancy to discuss another section and to get the reasons for the emergency section in the first place !!

I think if you are genuinely fearful they can't really refuse you as you can't be induced after a section. (well i hope so)

I also intend to ask to go to counselling to have the fact i am so scared recorded which will hopefully aid my case in getting me closer to another section.

Don't think its unreasonable to go to your gp as they too will record how you are feeling.

Once i have had my appointment will post how i get on and what was the outcome. image
  • Hi again girls, yes please let us know what your consultant said!

I really don't think you need to panic, I guess it can vary between trusts but where I am if you had a cs first time round you will always get the option of a section for future pregnancies. From talking to mummy friends around the country that seems like a fairly consistent thing as well. In some places you're even actively discouraged from having a VBAC and labelled as taking unnecessary risks (which is a bit extreme IMO, but am just saying it to demonstrate that some consultants really don't like vbac and would much rather you had a repeat section).

I'm sure it will be OK, but let us know how you get on

    xxx
  • Hello ladies,

Finally my appointment had come through for 5/5/11 at 10.40am so as soon as i get back from appointment i will be posting what was said!!

Am soooo excited have had to ring several times (as i went out of area to have dd) so my referral had been misplaced, have been ttc since first post and af and cycles all over the place!! Trying to remain pos.

Good luck to you all with ttc image
  • i had my apt and was asked again whether id consider vbac. I still said no so they just gave me section date.

Didnt even ask why? i didnt have to give any reasons at all. All booked for 3rd May.x
