Hi, I just wondered who I can complain to officially?

Hello, I've not posted in here but thought this was probably the place to ask....

Basically I had an awful labour/birth and 10weeks on I'm still reliving the nightmares, in a load of pain and awaiting surgery. Im sure its nothing like a lot of you, its just i feel i was looked after terribly (last labour of mw shift crap).Originally I was going to put it down to experience and just let it slide but the more I remember the more angry I get and I want to complain but I don't know where to start!

Could someone please tell me who I'm meant to contact or write to and whether it wOuld actually mean anything or would I be wasting my time? Thanks

  • hi, try PALS, and also ask ur hv to put u intouch with ur local 'birth afterthoughts' scheme (most areas have one)...i did this after i had ds, they arranged a specialist mw to meet me and go through my notes and explain the whys and wherefores, that mw then referred me for counselling (where i was diagnosed with post traumatic stress) and she also wrote to the matron/head of midwifery of the labour/maternity ward on my behalf detailing all my qualms etc...i then had a phone call from said matron requesting to meet me and she would send an appointment etc, i've since had my dd and never did meet the matron, but will be chasing that up shortly...hth xx
  • I made a formal complaint after having my first son in 2006. I had an emergency section and was left all night without even being able to reach the call buzzer in agony. Go on to the website of the nhs trust where you gave birth and it should have all the contact details for the governance dept for you to address your complaint to. There is no excuse for bad care, don't forget that image
