Stretch and Sweep in 2nd pregnancies

Hi Ladies

Im 39 weeks pregnant and i am booked for a sweep next week on my due date as baby is looking like a decent size already.

Midwife said that sweeps seem to be more effective in 2nd prgenancies as your body has been in labour before - just wondered what peoples experiences were and scucess stories with sweeps for 2nd pregnancies?

thanks

  • Hi Newlook84,

Well both my girls took me through a similar experience, my eldest I DTD on the eve 5days overdue which acted like a natural sweep & I went into labour 4hrs later, my labour lasted 49hrs & she arrived 8days overdue.

My youngest I started early labour 3days before my due date, alas I went overdue again and on the morning of day 6 being overdue I had a Membrane sweep.  It took 12hrs but I did go into labour that evening & she arrived 7days overdue.

I can't say the sweep made too much difference rather it was having my waters break, once my waters broke on my 2nd pregnancy my body instantly recalled what was meant to happen & young lady was out very soon after.
