just a quick question!

I'm a first time mam and due on friday! I heard from someone that if parents aren't married the baby automatically gets the mothers surname. Is this true and can the baby be registered with fathets surname on birth certificate? Thanks in advance x

  • Yeah thats true

When my baby was born they went by my last name. So did the health visitors and doctors until i registered her with her dads name x
  • So the quicker I get her registered the better really! Thanks just hadnt thought about it until it was mentioned x
  • Oh wow that's interesting, I didn't know that. I live in Canada and they allow us to give the baby the mothers or father's last name...or you can hyphenate both names
  • Yeah my josh has my last name on his hospital bands and on his health visitor books etc

A week later he had his daddy's last name once we registered him image
  • So will her book and everything be changed over once she is registered? X
