Tampon usage after birth

My sister had a baby a few weeks ago, and she was told not to use tampons for at least a few months after giving birth to her son. Why is this? Is this a standard procedure?

  • I think it's just cause you're so raw and sore down there after giving birth, you really don't want to be prodding anything in there - it's like waiting for the 6 week check your doc gives you after birth - they say it's ok to have sex after that point, but it can still hurt so much, same with a tampon - just make sure all is healed, and especially if you had internal stitches, you just want to be sure all is well first. I'd say wait 2/3 months.
