One of my mates had a home birth and said that the midwife takes most of the mess away with her to get rid of. She really enjoyed a home birth with her second and hated a hospital birth with her first. I had my first in hospital and i want the same with this one, can't say i want to stay long tho. It just comes down to what you want. Hope this helps :\)

As this is my first baby guess my idea of mess might be exagerated. have visions of it being like a horror movie, all up the walls. think my imagination is running away from me lol. If m/w clears up most of mess I can see more of the attraction, it was the thought of giving birth then clearing up (coz i cant imagine my dh helping with that) that worried me. thanks for sharing your thoughts on it, i like seeing other peoples perspectives xx

When i had my daughter in hospital there wasn't that much mess, but god help me when my waters break with this one i know i've got alot more  please nowhere in public image

if you think that they are going to break when your in public try and make sure your in MnS or any other nice store. they give you a really nice baby pack, i reckon that might be worth the embarrasment, provided you get to hospital for the birth- did you read about the lady that gave birth in John Lewis a few weeks ago?

Hi everyone! I would like a home birth as I would like to be in control of what I do when in labour, birth positioning, environment, whether I want to blast music out etc! I want to be in a familiar place and have the same midwife throughout. I have read that there is more of a chance of medical intervention i.e. C-section if in hospital...that concerns me...I realise that if something goes wrong then off to hospital I would go - but I am ok with that - I would not sacrifice the baby and myself for the sake of following a perfect birth plan! I really do hope that everything goes to plan and that I can have the home/natural birth that seems so right to me.

Hi Sarah-Louise! Thanks for your reply and insightful advice. I am glad to know that you are also petite and have had successful pregnancies and births...that really encourages me! Carla

Im 5ft1 and planning a HB in 4 weeks approx - your height doesn't neccessarily reflect how big your pelvic outlet will be, as only going through labour will let you find out, and a baby too big to get through would simply result in labour grinding to a halt whether you're in hospital or at home. At home you're more likely to be mobile and this helps baby move down, so I think its a good choice, but then I'm biased. PS its my first too.

I really wanted a home birth but am expecting a very big baby with too much amniotic fluid so it's safer for me to have it in hospital but i'm gutted. Have a look at www.homebirth.org.uk. It's brilliant and answers loads of questions about what to do if you're petite, diabetic whatever and you can remind your G.P about the positive outcomes from home births. Good luck, hope u get what u want.

many doctors are funny about home births. the midwife can still bring pethidine with her, but maybe as its your first you should try the hosptial incase something goes wrong and then if you have another one as you will know what to expect have a homebirth then. birth can be quite shocking and i wouldnt want to get in an ambulance and travel in full labour if the baby was in trouble

    hi,
I am expecting my second in september, olivia my baby girl is just seven months so its all still fresh in my mind and am really hoping to have home birth this time. The midwife was very unhelpfull and advised me to forget it because they are so short staffed. am also having trouble trying to get daddy to agree he is a worrier and says its safer in hospital. Just feel i will be happier in my own space and hated hospital stay, how quick can i get home after second birth?? also want us all to be together as a family after the birth.

    good luck everyone

Hi Tracy! If your husband comes round to the idea and the pregnancy is virtually trouble free, then I think that you can not be refused the right to a home birth - as I understand it anyway! I think that it is terrible for the midwife to be so negative due to staffing problems, how does she know what the staffing situation will be like in September?! How was your first pregnancy and birth? Take care! Carla

im really petite with a size 2 feet, ive had 2 children in hospital and wouldnt consider a home birth, even though my oh is a consultant anaeshtetist and has delivered lots of babies and we could have our specialist on standby. hospital births can be great so dont rule it out, you can take your own music and anything else you would like . the thing with home births especially for a first , is you dont know what will happen image you may decide you need that epidural and monitoring the baby . im not saying home births are wrong but consider all options

I am also 4' 11" with a very small frame, and am having a home birth. This is my 3rd child. The other 2 were normal vaginal hospital births, with no complications. I didn't like the lack of control I had in the hospital, and I am very much looking forward to giving birth in my own home with my family. My midwife is very supportive, confident, and encouraging about having my baby at home. I think as long as your midwife is confident with it, and you are having a normal, healthy pregnancy, there is no reason to not give birth at home.

yes it is possible! really wanted a home birth myself so have reserched it a lot from my experience gps dont really have all the information your midwife will know all your options. if you are at risk then how far is the hospital? if you need to go sometimes its quicker to get their by ambulance then it is to change wards, and the stress of giving birth where you dont want to will be a big factor in how the labour.good luck

Hi Sarah! Glad you want a home birth too! I am about 5 mins drive from the hospital! I would think twice if I were many miles away....Is this your first pregnancy?

Hi Jo! I don't know the answer to that one! Your midwife or consultant should be able to help. X
